Reasonably loud but not over the top. A couple of songs later during an impressive bass line the audio stopped outputing music and started to make a sound not unlike a CD skipping. Except it now keeps making this sound all the time, even if the Audio system is turned of.
Eject all of the CD's, select FM - still no difference. Turn the audio off - still it wont stop and cannot be altered with the volume control - that has no effect. Only way to stop it is to turn off the ignition.
It draws some impressive current as well - the "ziiippp - click - ziiippp - click" noise manages to modulate the interior lights with each ziiipp and click. So it look as if the Power amp stage is very broken. Your Amp is indeed cooked, had mine replaced in my about 6 months ago. Dealership probably doesn't have replacement in stock and will have to order.
Did yours fail in a similar way -i. How long did the delivery of the new amp take? Thanks for the offer but as she is only two days old she is under warranty thus the dealer will be sourcing it. Hopefully that wont take to long!
Yes, cranked the music up to about "40" and it died. Dealership Lexus of Massapequa ordered a replacement and had it in about a week. Installed it and has been fine ever since. Have even tried to blow it while car is still under warranty, without success.
Don't listen to lud music, but my amp had to be replaced at 33, in my 07 LSL as well, under warranty. Service writers knew what the issue was immediately. Took 3 days to get the part and I drove a loner becaseu the noise will drive you batty.I also cannot hear any beeps when the temperature is adjusted. Initially I though it was the amplifier but I have swapped this over and this has not cured the problem - I know the amp is working becuase I can hear the fans spinning.
I had this problem recently. In my case, whilst stuck in a traffic jam M25 I tried to make a hands free call from telephone addressbook via the audio system. But before the call could connect, I had to move and the call failed. Naturally the telephone addressbook greyed out. After this my audio sound stopped both for radio and cds. The rest of my journey was in silence. But after getting home, I turned the audio off and then the engine off.
Then restarted the carturned on the audio and hey presto the sound was back and has not let me down again. So might be worth turning the audio off and then turning the engine off. Start the engine back on and turn the audio on and pray that brings the sound back on. Not sure if this applies to your model year but with engine running press and hold the audio on button to force a reset? If the above fails then I intend to remove the CD player and screen and check the connections at the back.
Is there a fault code showing in the hidden menu for the audio system. I am not sure this was available on the LS but worth checking.
I check this and there is no Fault code - I could not even find a menu for codes to be honest. I have come across a handful of posts with the same problem on LOC USA - but some of them are mnay years old with no resolution post whilst others say its the amplifier which in my case its not.
As a retired electronics engineer if you lived close I could no doubt have solved the problem for you, but there is so much that can cause this sort of problem at a distance I can be of little help. Corroded connections "tarnished" at one of the plugs is a strong possibility. After that dry soldered joints "the pain of the industry since moving to lead less solder" is the next likely culprit.
I agree with John it could be a number of things. My guess would have been the amp or a sticking mute button at first. Always worth a try. I'm sure I had a good spare radio CD unit too, it's yours if I still have it.
I'll look tomorrow.
Blown Fuse Check 2007-2012 Lexus LS460
Neil: Thanks for the post - I might take you up on that offer but firstly I want to check the connections on the back of the unit - I will also try the Battery disconnect - In my haste I did not do it when swapping the amplifier over although I should of done.
I did wonder if you had disconnected the Battery earth as there's very little danger whilst swapping the amp connections. It's been there gathering dust for ages, PM me where to send it if it's a match for yours. Looks like I on my initial check I did not wait long enough for the codes to display - Now I know the car is recognising a problem - so as planned to dig deeper into the dash and check the wiring behind the unit.
Right - well i think i have done as much as I can - dismantled the dash and removed the CD unit - unplugged it - checked all the wiring for any visible damage - check the plugs n pins and cannot see anything which might be the problem - I think the next step is to check wether the CD unit is actually faulty by swapping it over.
Update: Neil kindly sent me the replacement CD player unit - unfortunatley it does not solve my problem - The audio is still Silent?? I spoke to chris at svt services he repaired my amp and he suggested sending the amps in for testing - even though I find it hard to believe that both amps are faulty - this maybe my only next option.
I can't be sure that the replacement head unit is perfect but if it powered up okay, it would be unlucky if it had the same fault. The amps are well known for their fragility but I would say the next step is to check the continuity of the cabling. One other thing I forgot to ask, have you changed any of the speakers?Evogame net wifi
I think when swapping the amps over in my haste I did not disconnect the Battery terminal which may have blown the fuse which was fine on my initial inspection.Reina helped make these videos. The video above shows how to check for blown fuses in the engine bay of your Lexus LS and where the fuse box diagram is located. If your map light, stereo, turn signals, heated seats, headlights or other electronic components suddenly stop working, chances are you have a fuse that has blown out.
Fuses should always be the first thing you check if your LS is experiencing electrical difficulties because they are relatively easy to check and inexpensive to change.Kwan sheung chi
The more electronics your LS has, the more fuses it has. Some Lexuss have multiple fuse boxes in the engine bay, so be sure to find the fuse s in question. Some components may have multiple fuses, so make sure you check all of the fuses that are linked to the component in question.
If you need to replace a blown fuse in your LS, make sure you replace it with one that has the same amperage as the blown fuse. If checking and replacing the fuse for the component in question doesn't work, we recommend seeking assistance from a trusted professional mechanic.

The Right Parts. Full list of part and tools. Download Lexus owners manuals.Any other LS or L owners had their amplifier gone out on them? Crazy as it sounds but I had mine just go out on my car and then the same week I was speaking to another L owner who his also went out I was 52, and Lexus told me sorry but it's over the 50, warranty. OK Hold on to your seat for this one I would think there would be some sort of repair program available Where is the quality At the same time I had mine recalled for the valve spring replacement, and have had the water pump replaced.
Clarification; did the dealer diagnose the amplifier as the problem, or did you or someone else determine that? The reason I ask, is that it is extremely unusual for an amplifier in a system only three years old to go bad. Whether it be in a Levinson, or a standard Lexus system. Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, if the amplifier is shot, there is no secondary market for parts.
However, on this forum, we have a LOC approved vendor that specializes in Lexus audio parts and systems. His name is "dcfish". He may have an amp for you at a lesser price than the dealer. Otherwise, "ebay" would be your next best alternative. Failure of the ML amp in the LSs is pervasive. A new one is your only choice at the moment. Or a junk yard one. Several of them have been replaced on both the regular and the L version.
I talked to the audio man at my Lexus dealer and asked him if there is a problem with the Mark Levinson amp in the LS He said that the amps in that system have a high rate of failure and they see it all the time. The problem is that Levinson will not share any knowledge, schematics, diagrams, parts, or technical assistance since it is all proprietary and Levinson just license the product to Lexus.
Consequently the dealer hasn't got a clue as to what is wrong with the amp or how to repair it. The only fix is a replacement.Log In or Create Account Optional. Log Into My Account.
